Fast Food Restaurant
Filippas is a branch of a small chain of restaurants in the historic center of the city Ioannina. The firm hired Topotheque for the renovation/adaptation of an old traditional stone building into a modern fast food restaurant. The brief was asking for an interior design as well as a new visual identity, that would underscore the new character of the brand, while respecting the character of the surrounding area. The basic restrictions, apart from the tight budget and schedule, was the really narrow trapezoidal plan, the existing ventilation system and the grill station that could not be removed. The removal of a stone column in the middle allowed for better space articulation and opened the store to the street. Following the irregular shapes of the plan and the ventilation we created a surface that would partially hide the equipment without sacrificing valuable space or volume . The surface was then horizontally contoured and analyzed in linear wooden slats, that are held with bracing frames that run along the surface. The design was developed parametrically but the construction was realized manually.
