eCAADe17 Conference
Last week Evangelos from Topotheque presented his current research at the eCAADe17 conference . The theme of the conference was Shock!Sharing Computable Knowledge and was hosted by the University of Sapienza in Rome Italy.
The presented project explored generative design via the mechanical encoding of behaviours onto a low level robotic platform (bristlebots). The paper describes a framework and experimental setup for investigating emergent motion patterns and behaviours of multiple bristlebots by altering the geometry of their body. The objective is to study how specific design parameters of a robust robotic system can be tweaked to achieve desirable global behaviours (i.e. clustering of parts or collective transport) which can prove useful for architecture
Moreover the project looked into how to develop mechanisms that allow the autonomous control of the swarm. The project used a combination of parametric design tools such as Autodesk’s Dynamo and Fusion Software as well as a series of custom developed tools using Python,Open CV and Arduino.
The paper is available online here
The research was done under the supervision of D. Gerber and was conducted at BUILDSpace, Autodesk’s research fin Boston, with support from the Institute of Advance Catalunia (IAAC) during the Spring 2017

K-House Concrete frame is complete
The concrete frame of the two-storey private residency in Ioannina is complete.
We are excited with the progress of the project which will soon be completed
