Co-Formation Lecture at DUTH
Topotheque was invited at the Democritus University of Thrace to deliver a lecture on their work and hold a workshop on parametric form finding.
The event was part of a guest lecture series organized by Ass. Professor Polyxeni Mantziou for the course "Architectural Design and New Technologies II"
The lecture was followed by a hands on virtual-workshop, in which a custom web-based parametric design tool developed by our team was distributed to the students who experimented with form finding different architectural geometries by defining the constraints.
The learning objective was to introduce students to the principles of parametric design and push them to generate architectural forms implicitly by modelling specific constraints and not by explicitly modelling geometry. The outcomes of this workshop along with results from other instructors that participated in this class are included in a publication that can view below: “CO-” publication at DUTH
MakersXchange Program
Our partner company Fablab Ioannina along with designer/research Oriol Carasco submitted a proposal and were selected to participate in the MakersXchange, a transnational exchange for makers (http://makersxchange.eu/) which aims at overcoming global design challenges by empowering local communities by distributing knowledge . The submitted proposal outlines the development of a web configurator for generating and the adjusting molds for facilitating the fabrication of artificial reef modules in different areas around the world.
The basis of the project lies on the on one hand on the design knowledge gained by completing a research project on the design and digital fabrication of modular reef structures and on the hand on material studies and the production of prototypes during a workshop last year we completed. Our team worked with Oriol to distill the basic design parameters and fabrication constraints to fine tune the parametric models and host them on a web platform so that they can be accessible by non experts Click on the view more to see the first iteration of the tool
